Small Business Health Insurance
Group vs. individual coverage, and what a good broker should do for you.
Small business health insurance
- It should mean working with a broker who understands both small-business group plans and individual health insurance plans.
- Most employers feel they need to offer something to keep and attract talented employees, but health insurance is very expensive.
- There’s no cut-and-dry answer on when it’s best to offer health insurance versus offering other benefits instead.
- Work with a broker who understands both markets to determine the right answer for your business.
- Choose a broker willing to work with your employees — you have enough to do running your business without becoming the insurance expert.
- What your broker should do:
- Be in touch with you on a regular basis (not just at renewal time)
- Have access to multiple health plans to find the best for you (example: access to over 800 plans including UnitedHealthcare, Anthem, Aetna, Medical Mutual, and COSI)
- Be willing to meet with your employees to help them get the most out of their plans
- Have innovative approaches to get your employees better coverage for sometimes less money
- Insurance for small businesses should never be a do-it-yourself project.
